Last night the Dime crew was at Madison Square Garden to get up with the youngest, most exciting team in the NBA, the Portland Trail Blazers. We talked to Greg Oden, LaMarcus Aldridge, Jerryd Bayless and others about shoe game…
GREG ODEN
Dime: What are you wearing on the court this season?
Greg Oden: Whatever Nike gives me. They had to make some special sneakers for me for my feet when I kept rolling my ankle, so we got something and we still working on something to just make it better.
Dime: What was the first pair of sneakers you ever bought?
GO: Converse. Chuck Taylor Converse. I used to hoop in ‘em hard for two years.
Dime: That never messed up your ankles?
GO: Never.
Dime: What’s your favorite pair of sneakers of all-time?
GO: My favorite pair? You know, at Ohio State we wore the LeBrons and they were pretty comfortable, especially for me. That little suction they have in the LeBrons, I like those.
LAMARCUS ALDRIDGE
Dime: What are you wearing on the court this season?
LaMarcus Aldridge: I’m wearing the Nike Huarache 08s.
Dime: What’s your favorite pair of sneakers of all-time?
LA: Gotta be the white and black patent leather Jordans. The Space Jams.
Dime: How big is your sneaker collection?
LA: I’ve got a lot of shoes man. I have a lot in Portland and I have a lot in Texas. I don’t have a number, but both closets are like crazy full. I couldn’t even bring ‘em all out.
CHANNING FRYE
Dime: What are you wearing on the court this season?
Channing Frye: Just whatever Nike gives me man. But I think the ones B-Roy wears, I’m gonna start wearing those. I don’t know where those are at. Nike is kind of particular about what you wear.
Dime: What was the first pair of sneakers you ever bought?
CF: The Jordan 11s. They were like black on the bottom and then white. They came in red and black, and kind of looked like sharks. I had every color man. Oh gosh. You know, the ones MJ wore when he crossed Utah.
Dime: What’s your favorite pair of sneakers of all-time?
CF: Chuck Taylors. Chucks. All types of colors. Man those things are cheap and when they get dirty, throw them mugs in the wash. So you know, as much as it rains out there in Portland, I’m not trying to wear no fancy Js, but you know I do have a couple nice little pairs for the collection, but other than that, I’m really just keepin’ Chucks. All day, every day.
STEVE BLAKE
Dime: What are you wearing on the court this season?
Steve Blake: I’m going into my sixth year with And1. They make a good shoe, good shoe for me, and I’ve been wearing them and I love them.
Dime: What’s your favorite pair of sneakers of all-time?
SB: The first ones that come to mind are, when I was in high school, I wanted to get some Penny Hardaways that came out that I really wanted. Dad made me work hard for them, so I did that and he got ‘em for me.
JERRYD BAYLESS
Dime: What are you wearing on the court this season?
Jerryd Bayless: I’m wearing adidas, the Team Signature model.
Dime: What’s your favorite pair of sneakers of all-time?
JB: The Jordan 11s.
Dime: What was the first pair of sneakers you ever bought?
JB: That’s too far back to even remember. I don’t even know.
