Repping for his hometown college even though he skipped school and went straight to the NBA, King James’ drops his signature Air Max LeBron VII “Akron” at House of Hoops this Saturday, February 27th.

The shoe features the University of Akron navy and gold, with “Zippy the Kangaroo” on the medial side near the heel. Weird name for a kangaroo, no? Well Akron is the hometown of BF Goodrich company, which was renowned for debuting zip-up galoshes in 1923 which led the University to adopt the nickname the “Zippers” (eventually shortened to “Zips” in 1950). Since clothing accessories aren’t particularly intimidating, the school eventually adopted “Zippy the Kangaroo” as the physical embodiment of their nickname.
