Memorial Day weekend is often dubbed the unofficially start of summer, and this year Foot Locker has a special treat for sneakerheads with the exclusive early release of the Nike Air Penny 2 “Sprite” THIS weekend!
The “Sprite” colorway has been seen on a number of different shoes in the past few years but this Penny 2 may be the best yet. Originally released in 1996 as Penny Hardaway’s second signature shoe, the Air Penny 2 was a huge success. The shoe was originally retro-ed in 2008 and has only been seen a couple of times since then. The Air Penny 2 “Sprite” is made with the increasingly popular soar blue and cyber color combination that has been seen on all kinds of Nike athlete shoes from Nomos, to Griffey Furys, to LeBrons. The Penny 2 has a mostly soar blue upper with cyber accents on the piping, Penny and Nike logos, and on the outsole. The shoe has a big white mid sole that almost resembles a cloud with carbon fiber enforcement under the midfoot. The upper is made of two different materials with suede on the tongue, ankles and collar and an almost plastic/vinyl material wrapping around the toe and bordering the midsole. Unlike most Nike shoes that have the Swoosh boldly across the side, the only place with Nike branding on these kicks are on the heel. Two of Penny’s famous cent logos can be found on the shoe’s upper. There are two air bubbles on the shoe – an Air Max bubble under the heel and Zoom Air under the toe.
The Nike Air Penny 2 “Sprite” will be available at House of Hoops and select Foot Locker stores nationwide this weekend. They will retail for $155.
