The new Nike Hyperdunk dropped today, June 29, in five colorways. One of those colorways was part of Nike’s Hyperdunk+, the first basketball shoe equipped with Nike+ technology. The other four are part of the Olympic Pack, representing four teams that will be sporting Nike uniforms and gear at the Summer Olympics in London. The countries included in the pack are: the USA, China, Puerto Rico, and Brazil. Of those four, only Puerto Rico hasn’t qualified for the Olympics yet. They will have to earn their spot in London at the FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Caracas, Venezuela next week. All four shoes in the pack are in their country’s away colorways.
The Lunar Hyperdunk takes on a much different look than the Hyperdunk 2011 – one of the most widely worn shoes in the NBA. The latest Flywire technology contributes to the shoe’s support and keeps it lightweight. On the sides of the shoe the Flywire is exposed, the first time we’ve seen that from Nike. Under the Flywire is a newly designed foam upper that is covered in mesh. Foam keeps the shoe lightweight while allowing for a snug fit. The midsole is made out of Lunarlon cushioning, which we’re used to seeing on Nike running shoes. The cushioning has been redesigned to be basketball specific for the Hyperdunk. We can also see more mesh being incorporated into this design for increased breathability.
