Anyone who grew up watching the NBA or collecting shoes in the late 80’s and early 90’s has a story about their first pair of Pump shoes. Now, those stories can continue or begin in 2012 with Reebok’s release of the Twilight Zone Pumps today in a white/neon yellow/black/fiesta red colorway. Made famous by Dominique Wilkins and his Human Highlight Film nickname, the Twilight Zone Pumps were strapped to Wilkins’ feet for some of his most famous dunks. These Pumps have a distinct retro feel. When the basketball sneaker industry took off during the NBA’s Golden Era, Reebok was right in the mix of things with their Pump technology and their high flying star, Dominique. While the Pump never really went away, 2012 has now seen the technology on a couple of Reebok retro releases. The Twilight Zone Pumps have a white leather based upper with neon yellow accents along the midfoot and heel collar. Fiesta red can be found on the outsole and on the Pump itself, while black accents are featured on the tongue, midsole, and Reebok branding. In addition to the Pump technology, this release also has Reebok’s Energy Return System (ERS) built into the outsole and midsole of the shoe. A neon yellow bar on the heel of the midsole is the only visible party of the ERS.
The Reebok Pump Twilight Zone released today, August 24 at Foot Locker locations and online at Footlocker.com for $120. A link to buy online can be found below, as well as the original Reebok Pump commercial featuring none other than the Human Highlight Film.
