In November 1999, just one month after Michael Jordan’s first retirement, a handful of MJ look alikes turned up on basketball teams around the country. Mysteriously all of these players seemed to possess the exact same skill set as #23 himself. Last week we saw the Retro IX named after one of these mysterious ballers – Johnny Kilroy. Today we’ll see the next release from the Johnny Kilroy Pack, the Jordan Retro IX “Fontay Montana.” Montana starred for the fictional Gulls basketball team. Their logo adorns the inside of this release’s tongue. While many of the Retro IXs have a two colored upper, the Fontay Montana is completely pure platinum. Game royal takes care of the tongue, inner lining, and Jordan Branding around the shoe. Mandarin Orange is featured on the midsole and accents on the heel. Like the Johnny Kilroy, the shoe’s namesake “Fontay Montana” appears on the tongue in orange stitching. This colorway reminds us of a certain NBA team. Hopefully we’ll see these on the hardwood this season – we’re looking at you JR Smith.
The Jordan Retro IX “Fontay Montana” drops today, October 13, at House of Hoops by Foot Locker and online at Footlocker.com. They will retail for $160.
