Five years ago, House of Hoops by Foot Locker in Harlem, NYC on 125th Street opened its doors for the first time. Coincidentally, five years ago, Nike gave a 20 year old defending NBA Rookie of the Year on the newly relocated Oklahoma City Thunder his first signature shoe. That player was Kevin Durant, who, this weekend, helped to celebrate both the launch of the brand new Nike KD V and the fifth anniversary of House of Hoops by Foot Locker. Both Durant and House of Hoops have come a long way in the past five years. Durant has won three consecutive NBA scoring titles, has been selected to three All Star Games, led his team to the NBA Finals, and won an Olympic Gold Medal for the USA (all before he turned 24) – just to name a few accomplishments. House of Hoops has quickly become the go-to destination for premier basketball performance and basketball inspired kicks, apparel, and gear and it continues to grow and bring these premier products to new cities around the country. To commemorate all of these accomplishments, Durant appeared at two House of Hoops by Foot Locker this past week. On Wednesday, November 29, KD dropped by the store at Penn Square Mall in Oklahoma City and on Sunday, December 2, he popped into the original House of Hoops in Harlem. At both events, Durant conducted a Q & A both with an MC and with some fans in attendance. He gave away some signed memorabilia and Kevin Durant prize packs and most importantly, he debuted the KD V. In Harlem, Durant brought along Nike designer Leo Chang to unveil the Nike KD V “DMV” colorway and to drop the shoe early – one week before its release – in Harlem only. We’d like to thank Kevin for coming out and here’s to five more years of Nike KD models releasing at House of Hoops by Foot Locker.
Take a look at some images of the events below and we’ll keep posting them as they become available.
