It’s been a while since we’ve seen an Air Jordan V drop but for the first time since 2008 a Retro V will hit stores. Originally released in February 1990, the Fire Red Air Jordan V was the first colorway of this model released. Michael Jordan wore the Vs during the majority of the 1989-1990 season in which he won his fourth consecutive scoring title and when he scored his career high 69 points against the Cavs. A black and red midsole complements the all white upper with a fire red inner lining. Taking inspiration from a fighter jet, the 2013 Fire Red V captures the essence of the original but has some unique quirks of its own. The most obvious change from the original is the icy blue bottom on the version that drops today. You’ll also notice the absence of Jordan’s #23 on the outside of the shoe. A reflective 3M tongue remains, as well as the lace clip, mesh overlays, and midsole pattern that are the major characteristics of any V.
The Jordan Retro V “Fire Red” drops today, January 26, at Foot Locker, House of Hoops by Foot Locker, and online at Footlocker.com. A link to buy online and the original tv commercial for the Air Jordan V can be found below.
