House of Hoops: Jordan Fly Wade 2 EV

While collectors are always looking forward to the next Jordan Retro release, those that use Team Jordan player shoes as their kicks on the court know that the brand has developed some of the best basketball performance sneakers of the year. Among those are the Fly Wade 2′s which released today in its newest colorway at House of Hoops locations. In a colorway similar to what Dwyane Wade wore in the Heat’s first round series with the Knicks, today’s Fly Wade 2 release matches the home Miami uniforms perfectly. A white upper with del sol and gym red accents throughout make up the colorway for this extremely lightweight shoe. A gym red tongue, collar and heel area midsole are offset perfectly by the del sol that appears on Wade’s logo, the Jumpman, the Flywire, and the outsole.

Although Carmelo Anthony and his New York Knicks have been bounced from the NBA playoffs, his signature shoe continues to stack up the releases. This Summer will be particularly basketball-centric because of the upcoming 2012 Olympic games in London. Melo, a staple on Team USA, will be with the team as they begin their world tour leading up to their Gold medal defense in England. As such, Jordan Brand has released one of the first red, white, and blue themed models of the Summer with an eye towards the Olympics. Whether Melo wears these on court in London, we don’t know, but there’s no doubt the stars and stripes are well represented on this release. This model has a mostly white upper with tumbled white leather around the ankle, heel, and upper lace collar. A white patent leather wrap wraps around the shoe from ankle to toe. Pitch blue accents are featured on the tongue, inner lining, Jumpman logo and midsole. The Flywire supports, Melo logo on the heel and tongue, and Air bubble are accented in gym red.

May 12th Nike Air Force 1 Releases

This past weekend, two Nike Air Force 1 models were release – one mid and one hi. Both releases are extremely simple two-toned models – something that has kept the Air Force 1 popular for so long.

The Air Force 1 Mid release is a white and dark obsidian model. Dark Obsidian accents appear on the heel, Nike Swoosh, inner lining and outsole. The laces are also dark obsidian. As with all Air Force 1 Mids, the ankle strap is not removable. This release can currently be found at House of Hoops, Foot Locker, and online at Footlocker.com for $95. The Hi release is a white and vivid orange model. Vivid orange has become the unofficial color of May and, after the success the LeBron 9 Low Floridian had, why not? This Air Force 1 Hi has an all white upper with vivid orange accents on the Nike swoosh, outsole, tongue logo, and removable ankle strap. The Air Force 1 Hi Vivid Orange release is available in House of Hoops and Foot Locker locations now for $100.

Foot Locker May Exclusive: New Balance Minimus 3090 IONIX

For the second time in two months, New Balance has released a shoe that aims to revolutionize the running game. Last month, New Balance released the Minimus. This week, the New Balance Minimus 3090 IONIX will drop. Using lightweight foam, the sole of the IONIX is more responsive to your foot than other running shoes and shockingly light. The upper is made out of a breathable mesh that not only contributes to the shoe’s light weight but to the overall comfort and ventilation of the sneaker. Best of all, New Balance has hit the mark with their colorways. There are seven total styles, four of which can be seen in the photos below.

Nike LeBron 9 P.S. Elite “Taxi”

In what many around the blogosphere are calling the best colorway of the LeBron 9 series, the LeBron 9 P.S. Elite “Taxi” is also one of the most technologically advanced and best performing shoes on the market today. In a black, maize, and red colorway that invoke images of a Taxi, the Elite series was released for the NBA playoffs and LeBron has made the full transition on court through his first round series with the New York Knicks. Using Kevlar for the Flywire technology, shaving off any unnecessary weight, and using the finest materials available, Nike improved upon the original LeBron 9 model which already had a lot to live up to given the success of the LeBron 8. The Taxi has a mostly yellow upper with black carbon fiber running form the heel to the midsole with a white Nike swoosh on top of it. The Elite series has mesh around the ankles but still retains the same basic shape as the original LeBron 9. Specs of red dot the Air bubble on the heel and other red accents include the heel tab, LeBron James signature on the tongue, outline of the swoosh, and “Zoom” logo on the toe.

Jordan Retro IV “Cavs”

In 1989 Michael Jordan made one of the most iconic plays of his career, simply known as “The Shot.” With six seconds left in Game 5 (the deciding game) of the first round of the 1989 NBA Playoffs, MJ and his Bulls were up 99-98 on the Cleveland Cavaliers after Jordan had hit a jumper. After a Cleveland timeout, Craig Ehlo made a driving layup with three seconds left to put the Cavs up one. Following a Bulls timeout, Jordan managed to get open, catch the inbound pass, dribble twice and make a jumper in which he seemed to hang in the air forever from the foul line. Wearing his original Air Jordan IV, the Retro IV “Cavs” are being released for the 23rd anniversary of “The Shot.” 23 is obviously a very important number is Jordan’s legacy as it was the number he wore for the overwhelming majority of his career.

The Jordan Retro IV “Cavs” has a black nubuck upper. The orange and blue accents that are featured on it were the colors of the Cleveland Cavaliers at the time of “The Shot.” Orange and blue accents can be found on the ankle straps, heel, tongue, inner lining, midsole, and outsole. The shoe also comes with a throwback Jordan brand keychain.

House of Hoops Release: Nike Zoom KD IV “Aunt Pearl”

Signature shoe colorways are often inspired by events that have taken place in the player’s life but very few of those releases are as personal as the KD IV “Aunt Pearl.” The Aunt Pearl releases at House of Hoops locations today, May 12. In very obvious homage to breast cancer awareness, the Aunt Pearl pays tribute to victims and survivors of the disease, specifically Durant’s late aunt. Under the signature strap of this KD IV there is an inscription that reads: “In Memory of Aunt Pearl, who inspires us all to continue the fight for a cure.” The shoe consists of a mostly pink synthetic upper and a pink rubber translucent sole. The heel, tongue, and underside of the strap are all stylized with a pearl pattern. The tongue also includes the upside down pink ribbon which is the logo of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, founded by Ms. Yow who was the longtime coach of the NC State women’s basketball team before she lost her two decade battle with breast cancer in 2009. The Nike swoosh and Kevin Durant brand logo on the heel are black.

Imported from Europe, the Nike Big Nike AC has been a hit in the lifestyle category in its short time in the States. Originally released as a basketball shoe in the 80′s as the “Big Nike,” the Big Nike AC has an identical upper to its predecessor. The sole, however, has been transformed from a basketball sole to a lifestyle inspired one. The Big Nike AC falls into the same ballpark as Air Force 1s and Dunks but has its own unique flair with stylized tongues and heel tabs, and a non-attached upper lace collar. The Big Nike AC is currently available in two colorways: black/red/white and all black. Both shoes have thick white midsoles, reminiscent of Converse’s Chuck Taylor All Star’s. The black/red/white style has a white swoosh with red accents on the tongue, inside the lace collar and on the midsole. Though the all black model is one color, there are a number of designs on the shoe that make it anything but boring. A patent leather swoosh, gingham lace collar, and stylized ankle pad give the murdered out shoe some nice design touches. The tongue is also completely leather as opposed to the black/red/white style which has a nylon tongue.

Jordan CP3.V “Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde”

The Jordan CP3.V may be the shoe with the most releases so far this year. Today, there were four more colorways released in two separate groupings – the “Playoff Pack” and “Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde.” This post will focus on the latter. The Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde releases contain two shoes that, as the name would suggest, are opposites of each other. The “Dr. Jekyll” release has a wolf grey upper with a bright crimson inner lining and a volt and violet heel tab. It comes laced in grey but the shoe can be brightened up with a set of volt laces that come with the shoe. The outsole is mostly transparent. The “Mr. Hyde” has a bright crimson upper with violet around the ankle padding and on the midsole. It also has electric green accents on the outsole which contrast perfectly with the violet midsole. Violet laces are a secondary option to the volt laces that the shoe comes with. Both versions have violet accents on the same places on the outsole. Both shoes have a volt heel tab and a 10 dot volt triangle pattern just below the laces at the top of the toe box.

Jordan Melo M8: Playoff Pack

Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks will take on the Miami Heat tonight with their backs against the wall in Game 5 of their first round series. When the Knicks take the court it is almost certain that Melo will do so in one of the two Jordan Melo M8 colorways below, which released in stores today. The Playoff Pack contains two shoes, one black and orange and the other anthracite and blue. Both have dark uppers with the Knicks blue or orange in patent leather wrapping from the ankle around the toe box. The Flywire technology that we see on almost every performance shoe these days, is also on the Melo M8 to make the shoe more lightweight.
