When MJ returned to the court after his first retirement, he did so in the Air Jordan Xs. In contrast to the VIII and IX just before it, the X features a more passive look fused with sharp performance design details. Along the tongue, elastic eyestay bands aided in a snug fit, and a full-length Nike Air unit in the midsole provided the cushioning.
Tinker Hatfield created the shoe with a celebratory feel in mind, because Jordan was retired during the shoe's design timeline. A series of stripes along the outsole were used, with each one briefly capturing a Jordan accomplishment for each year of his career. -Zac, Sole Collector Magazine
