After a few years away from the Air Jordan design spotlight, Tinker Hatfield returned to create the XX. Mark Smith was back as well, creating the iconic artwork laser etched into the shoe's trademark midfoot strap. MJ's love of motorcycles and involvement in his own race team served as inspiration to the XX, taking cues from everything from actual cycling boots to tires to even the wear on a motorcycle exhaust. A new form of cushioning was also created for the XX. Known as Independent Podular Suspension, or IPS, specially designed cushioning pods were strategically placed under points of the most stress during play. This 20th anniversary model was well received by fans, and has gone on to be one of the most popular of the more recent releases. -Zac, Sole Collector Magazine
