After Tinker's success with the XX, design duties were handed over to D'Wayne Edwards for the Air Jordan XX1. Inspiration for this shoe was derived from the Bentley Continental GT coupe. This car was a perfect ode to MJ, which displayed elegance and class, as well as power.
Immediately noticeable on the XX1 was its lack of a lace cover. After appearing on five straight models, it was a welcome departure for many. Building on the IPS cushioning system of the XX, the XX1 took it a step further by offering an interchangeable heel pod. The wearer could choose between encapsulated Air or Zoom Air for a customized experience. -Zac, Sole Collector Magazine
